A recognized plastic injection molding and
manufacturing company in Kulpsville, PA, Aline Components,
offers PBT thermoplastic materials for a wide range of
custom plastic part and component applications. Local
customers in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware,
and Maryland as well as those based nationally and abroad
are using PBT as insulators in electrical industries,
exterior parts in automotive industries, keyboard buttons
in computing industries, and more.
At Aline Components, we can help you determine
if PBT plastic is suitable for your application requirements.
We invest in the highest quality GE plastics, specifically
Valox®, to deliver the injection molded plastic part
your product or system needs to perform to the highest
possible level. As a self-lubricating thermoplastic material,
PBT plastic exhibits excellent mechanical and electrical
properties combined with good chemical and impact resistance.
What is PBT Thermoplastic
Material?
A type of polyester, polybutylene terephthalate (PBT)
is a thermoplastic crystalline polymer. Polybutylene terephthalate
is the product of a reaction between butanediol and dimethyl
terephthalate or terephthalic acid. With polybutylene
terephthalate as a base, different grades emerge (such
as Valox®) through additives like fiberglass, minerals
like mica or wollastonite, stainless steel fibers or carbon
fibers, non-orienting fillers like glass beads, UV stabilizers,
impact modifiers, and more.
PBT Plastic Properties
Often compared to polyamide nylon, PBT plastic exhibits
extremely low water absorption. As a result of low water
absorption superior dimensional stability is achieved.
The tensile strength of PBT is between 6,000 and 13,000
psi, while the flexural modulus is between 300,000 and
1,200,000 psi. PBT plastic performs best at service temperatures
ranging from -40°F to 250°F for long-term use
and 420°F for shorter durations.
Advantages of PBT Plastic Include:
• High and low temperature performance
• Excellent impact and dielectric strength
• Heat and flame resistance
• Dimensional accuracy and stability
• Chemical resistance
Based on polybutylene terephthalate PBT,
Valox® is a thermoplastic polyester resin which combines
high mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties with
good chemical resistance. Valox® maintains its properties
when in contact with chemicals such as aliphatic hydrocarbons,
petrol, oils and greases, detergents, dilute acids and
bases, and most aqueous salt solutions kept at ambient
temperatures.
Through the use of impact modifiers, PBT
plastic can achieve high levels of impact strength. Flame
retardant grades are available upon request. The variety
of PBT-based product performance available in the marketplace
is a compliment to the versatility and flexibility of
this thermoplastic material. Today PBT is considered one
of the most commercially significant engineering resins
in the family of polyesters.
Moldability, dimensional stability, environmental
and temperature resistance, electrical insulation properties,
range of color capabilities, and high quality surface
finishes all contribute to the dynamic success of Alines
PBT custom plastic parts and components. Aline Components
prides itself on being an extremely capable plastic
injection molding and manufacturing company and employs
dedicated designers and mold makers that work with customers
to make sure they obtain the right thermoplastic material
for their distinct application.
